GQM

GQM stands for goal-question-metrics approach. As the name suggests, its the top down approach to define the measurement program keeping the key intention of measurement in mind. Goal is defined using - Purpose, Issue, Object & Viewpoint. Purpose would be typically "increase/improve / decrease"; (the) Issue (charecterstic); (of) the Object (process/sub process); from a perticular View point. Once that is done, follwoing questions help us flow -

1. How can we charectrise the object (base measure)

2. How can we charecterize the attributes of the object (change in base measure)

3. How can we evaluate the charecterstics (interpret & understand the change)

The above questions make us ask some questions and the numbers will help us understand the answer. These numbers and their combination becomes the basis of our measurement program.
